Thomas Kincade Brannigan was an old fashioned cat. That was his excuse for most things, and often it was true. On this not too bright morning, filled with harsh gases and toxic smells, Brannigan inadvertently slammed into his good friend in his rush to his house.
“What’s the hurry?” his friend Kipling inquired.
“I’m off to a new life! A new world! I shall say, you won’t be seeing much of me for quite a while.” Brannigan said, his eyes full of wonder.
“What is this nonsense? Where are you going?” Kipling said with a worried tone, but he feared he already knew the answer.
“I’m going to the motorway!” Brannigan said this with such hope that Kipling didn’t dare try to talk him out of it.
“Well my friend, I wish you the best of luck.”
With that Kipling and Brannigan parted with an embrace. Branniganbustled into his cramped house that he wouldn’t call a home. He had always thought a home was with family, a place you wanted to come back to. A place like the original New New York. That is where he planned to take his wife, into a new world, a better world.
“You ready?” Valerie asked him as he wrapped his scarf around his head.
“Never have I been more so.” he replied with a childlike grin.
Adventure was something he wanted now. Family was something he wanted for the future. He swept Valerie off her feet and they raced to the motorway, the faster the started the faster they would reach their destination.
“Are you sure you want to do this?” Brannigan asked Valerie. “I mean, do this,” he gestured with his hand between the two of them. “with me. It’s a long commitment, I wouldn’t blame you if you didn-” Valerie put her finger on his mouth, motioning for him to be silent.
“Thomas Kincade Brannigan, I would do anything with you.” with that Valerie dashed into the car, ready to start their adventure. Brannigan smiled with relief and followed her into the car. Hours passed and they hadn’t moved at all, but Brannigan knew this was going to be the case, he turned towards Valerie and smiled.
“This is going to be a long journey Valerie, a long journey to find our home. But,” he wrapped his hand around hers. “I think I already found mine. My whole life I’ve wanted a home, and now I have found mine in you. I don’t care how long this trip takes us, I would sit through a lifetime of traffic if it meant I was sitting next to you.”
Together Thomas and Valerie Brannigan sat hand in hand ready to face whatever came at them as they sought out their prolonged adventure.
